On 19th September 2023, the Official Lauch of the Merseyside Chinese Association Joint Action Group was held at Man Tseun Ho's Restaurant in Chinatown.

Special guests attending the event included Cllr. Nick Small, Cllr Laura Robertson- Collins, Cllr. Angela Coleman, Cllr Stephen Munby,  representatives of the Liverpool City Council,  partner organisations, businesses in Chinatown and the nearby area, etc.

During the event, Chief Executive Simon Wong delivered a welcome speech. He mentioned
Chinatown is like home to many of us. It is a place where we gather, learn about, preserve and pass on Chinese culture and customs.  We have always been proud to have the oldest Chinatown and Chinese community in Europe.  The launch event hoped that all sectors of society, partners and governments will have a better understanding of the Action Group and know how to contact us, share and communicate with us.  The Action Group will work closely with the council to improve the appearance and economy of Chinatown so that Chinatown can develop better.

Cllr Nick Small delivered a speech thanking the Action Group for the invitation, saying that the city of Liverpool is lucky to have the oldest Chinese community in Europe. The council cares about helping generations of Chinese who have taken root in Liverpool, and will also warmly welcome those newly arrived.  The council attaches great importance to and supports the prosperity and development of Chinatown, and looks forward to working with the Action Group to promote economic development and creative investment opportunities in Chinatown and Liverpool.

The Merseyside Chinese Association Joint Action Group was established on 22nd June this year. It was set up by the long established Chinese organisations in Chinatown and across the Merseyside,  namely

Che Kung Tong Chinese Freemasons UK, See Yep (UK) Association, Liverpool Chinese Business Association, Wah Sing Chinese Community Centre, Pagoda Chinese Youth and Community Centre, Hoi Yin Chinese Association, Tap Mun Chinese Association, Wirral Chinese Association, Wirral Chinese Cultural Association, North East Wales Chinese Women's Association and Liverpool Hung Gar Kung Fu Club

The Action Group's roles and responsibilities are
- To deal with all the matters regarding the development of Chinatown;
- To liaise and correspond with the local authority and partner organisations across Liverpool, Merseyside and beyond.

Cllr Nick Small 致詞多謝大會的邀請,表示利物浦市很幸運擁有全歐洲最悠久的華人社區,政府關心 幫助幾代已經在利物浦生活 扎根的華人,對新抵達的華人也會熱烈歡迎。政府重視及支持唐人街的繁榮發展, 並期待與行動組合作 帶動唐人街的經濟發展及 創作投資機會。

默西郡華人社團聯合行動組成立於2023年6月22日, 是由唐人街及默西郡 歷史悠久的華人組織組成, 分別是 致公堂,英國四邑總會館, 海宴同鄉會,塔門海外同鄉會,利物浦华人商會 ,百祥塔 , 華声社 ,威爾斯東北華人婦女會,偉盧華人文化協會,利物浦洪家功夫武館 及 偉盧華人協會。

行動組的任務及職責是處理有關利物浦唐人街發展的所有事宜, 包括歷史及文化事項等;與利物浦市政府、默西郡及其它地區,地方當局及合作夥伴組織進行聯絡和通信。

當晚大家借此機會互相交流及品賞萬泉河大酒樓的美味小食。

The hottest event this Easter has just got much, much hotter! Feast of Fire comes to St John’s Gardens at St George’s Hall, Liverpool, this March - a seven-night Easter spectacular for the whole family, March 23 – April 2, including a medley of sizzling displays from world-class fire artists, along with artisan street food and drink, and music. And now the organisers of the event, Walk the Plank, announce the new late-night additions to the programme called Feast of Fire Lates - showcasing some of Liverpool’s most exciting cultural organisations including Liverpool SoulFest, Pagoda Arts, Milapfest and Movema.

John Wassell, co-founder and creative producer for Walk the Plank, said:
“We are truly passionate about celebrating Liverpool’s rich diversity and the cultural heart of the city, so it was so important for us to collaborate with the right partners and I believe we have done just that. “Being able to work with organisations such as Africa Oyé and Liverpool Pride is phenomenal and I know we will be setting the gardens alight with the very essence of what makes Liverpool such a magical city.”
After the earlier Feast of Fire family sessions, Feast of Fire Lates will offer an additional twist each evening with a mix of uniquely themed experiences from 8.30pm-10.30pm.

Taking place on the weekend before and Easter weekend, the Feast of Fire evening programme includes:


Friday, March 23 - Fire in my soul - Join Liverpool SoulFest and warm your heart by celebrating the soul of our amazing city through music, dancing and fire. 
Saturday, March 24 - Celtic Flames - Mystical music and dance combine in a fiery feast of creativity and craic with Movema and friends.
Sunday, March 25 - Flames from the Dragon - A night to explore Chinese culture, from fusion to hip hop and traditional Chinese music from Pagoda Arts, including their visually stunning fire and water tai chi fan.
Good Friday, March 30 - The Kazimier Fire Garden – A feast for all senses unfurls as the Garden springs to life on Good Friday, see St John’s Gardens in a whole new light, as Kazimier Productions weaves its magic.

Easter Saturday, March 31 - African Heat - Feel the beat in the fiery heat and enjoy a preview of this summer&#39;s Africa Oyé festival with live music and entertainment.
Easter Sunday, April 1 - Liverpool Pride on Fire - A one night inferno of everything that’s hot about Liverpool - for the LGBTQ+ community and friends.

Easter Monday, April 2 - Agni - The Fire of India - For the grand finale St John’s Gardens will be ablaze with a colourful and vibrant myriad of Indian music and dance, curated by Milapfest, the UK’s leading Indian arts trust, with support from Liverpool Mental Health Consortium. As visitors walk through the trail of burning sculptures and garden installations, a mix of fire themed food and drinks will be available, with everything from wood-fired pizzas and toasted marshmallows to flaming cocktails and chilli hot chocolate. Feast of Fire will quite literally set your taste-buds alight.
Alongside this, Kazimier Productions are now confirmed as a key partner, with plans to set up a pop-up Kazimier bar concept, sure to deliver something hot.

“Feast of Fire Lates gives us the opportunity to transplant the essence of the Kazimier Garden into the ornate surroundings of St John&#39;s - to create a blazing collision of light, sound and vibe. It&#39;s going to be sensational evening for all the senses - and the mind!”
Feast of Fire has been created by the award-winning outdoor arts company, Walk the Plank, that helped stage the incredible opening to Liverpool’s Capital of Culture celebrations, Feast of Fire is part of the Liverpool 2018 cultural programme.
